Facebook needs to be rid of the ‘seen message’ notice like for real.

You can presume so much stuff about someone having seen your message and knowing it. I need to solidly think about my words because words are not a thing I do well.

Its 30 degrees in Athens. I am a canadian girl who has lived at an altitude of 2km above sea level and an extreme of 25 degrees dry heat most of her life. Also in a national park with minimal pollution.

I actually think i’m dying.

I’m also reading my first John Green book at the moment. “The faults in our stars”. Like, I dont think in terms of story that its the best thing I’ve read, but I really do like his “writing voice” so to speak. I dont know why but its the kind of writing I could read endlessly. I should read some more by this guy. I pretty well skimmed ‘looking for alaska’. I did the kind of reading where you take mind photos of paragraphs and get the general idea. I should try again.

So I was in Vatican City today and just…. Wow. I dont know how to put tht into words. I mean I’m not Catholic and definitely not religiously inclined, but it really just INSPIRED me. It was overwhelming. I wasnt just at a catholic church, I was at THE catholic church. I was there all day and I haven’t stopped reeling.

Dan Brown really has been my go to literature for this trip. I’ve read Davinci Code and Lost symbol so far and now I’m on Angels and Demons because I’m in Rome and I can visualize things in the book so much better if I’ve seen the actual places.

I’ve decided I’m studying film. Because “political science research” at 8 am is going to make me want to shoot myself. To be honest, that entire degree is going to make me want to put my head through a wall. My minor (human rights) has all the political courses I’d want to take anyways, and I want to enjoy what I learn.

Anonymous asked: I'd really love to go backpacking one day (I'm 17) and I'm super amazed by what you're doing! Do you mind if I ask how it is you were able to go about it?

I’d been planning it for a while, sort of. My friends and I kind of joked around about it in grade 11 and in grade 12 we decided to do it. I worked through my school year and worked 3 jobs over the summer for money. But we planned the first 3 weeks at home and then started winging it once we figured trains and hostels out. Sorry this probably took a while!

Wearing a hijab isn’t inherently liberating – but neither is baring one’s breasts. What is liberating is being able to choose either of these things. It’s pretty ludicrous to think that oppression is somehow proportional to how covered or uncovered someone’s body is. Both sides of this argument present a shallow understanding of women’s empowerment, which only drowns out the substantive challenges facing all women – issues that cannot be encapsulated in a debate about a piece of fabric.

Will Sam be able to stomach “justice and conflict in Religious wars” every monday at 8am? Stay tuned.
